RINGLING: ILLUSTRATION DEMO NIGHT....PRIME!

Here is the piece I did for this semesters Demo Night at the Illustration Department, Ringling. This is Transformer: Optimus Prime done in Dr Martin Watercolors on top of a ink wash and illustration board. For the dusting effects I used Montana spray paint.

A long time ago, at the Kubert School, I used this method before I learned how to use acrylics. After this piece, I might go back and try using them again...

RINGLING: ILLUSTRATION DEMO NIGHT

Here is the piece I did for Demo Night at Ringling. Once a semester the Illustration Department gets together and jams on different demos. I did a mix media piece of Darth Maul. Pretty stoke how it turned out...

MEGA CON 2011!

Had a rad time at Mega Con this year. Met lots of interesting people and did some really cool sketches. Here is a shot of my table and a scan of a sketch I did for the con!

RINGLING: INK AND PERSPECTIVE DEMO

Demos, demos, demos!!!! In school I loved watching demos. It seemed much easier if I saw the instructor take an idea and flesh it out right in front of me. So naturally I'd be doing a bunch of demos in my own class....

In this assignment I gave, the students had to find and use reference in the theme of World War. There had to be perspective, person(s), vehicle and vegetation. I did a quick demo to show them what I would have done. Pretty stoked out they turned out...

Ringling: Drawing 103: final

As I gear up for another semester at Ringling, I wanted to post some of the final projects from the class I taught last, Drawing. It was interesting seeing students at the very beginning of their art college career. Overall I was very stoked on all of the progress we made and all of the finals look amazing.

Frank Frezetta Tribute

Doing a Frank Frezetta Tribute piece meant a lot to me. While attending The Joe Kubert School, the school went on a field trip to his home and art gallery. AMAZING!!! And the best part was that he came out and visited with all us students briefly. It was one of those moments that a person will always remember….so here’s my "tip of my glass” to him.

DEMO NIGHT AT RINGLING: WARMACHINE!!!

This is the demo I did at Ringling's Demo Night. Demo Night is a night when the Illustration instructors get together and do demos for the students. It's a pretty rad idea. You can just walk around and check out all these awesome methods of working...

D & D: Gamma World!!!!

Once again, I got to jam on a project with Jon Schindehette from Wizards of the Coast! And it came out rad as hell!!! From the cover art by Steve Ellis and the amazing layout & design of the book, this project is one of my personal favorites for sure. The whole look of this book is super radioactive looking and edgy. Good ,good stuff. Check it out and let me know what you think!!!

Dungeons & Dragons: Strategy Guide

I had the privilege to work with Jon Schindehette, art director from Wizards of the Coast, on a new type of strategy guide for Dungeons & Dragons. The theme of the book was meant to be in a comic style, aimed for advanced players. Hadn’t played D & D since I was a kid, so this was a fun project. Mike Krahulik did a really kick ass cover for a badass book! Hope you dig the art!!!

intro to illustration : year end

Well, I just wrapped my first semester teaching at the Ringling College of Art and Design...and had a blast!!! I feel like the students learned a few things from me and also me from them. Being their first illustration instructor, it's going to be interesting to see where they go from here.

Here are a few choice picks of my fav illustrations done in my class...and as I upload them, I can't but help feeling a lil proud in the progress the students and I made.
